Since 1914

About the Department

Established in 1914, the Department of Heritage Telangana is one of the oldest departments of the State. It was renamed the Department of Archaeology & Museums in 1960, and took its present name on the enactment of the Telangana Heritage Act in 2017.

It is a research-oriented organisation. Its work spans exploration and archaeological excavation, the study of artifacts and inscriptions, the conservation and protection of monuments, and the presentation of the State's collections through its museums.
