Explorations
Bringing to light the structural, cultural and settlement patterns of Telangana's archaeological sites.
The main aim of conducting excavations is to bring out the structural,
cultural, and settlement patterns of archaeological sites.
After the formation of the Telangana State, the Department conducted six
excavations between 2014 and 2019. These include Megalithic sites at
Pullurubanda, Narmetta, and Palamakula in Siddipet District; an Early
Historic site at Pajjur in Nalgonda District; Peddabonkur in Peddapalli
District; and Phanigiri in Suryapet District.
These excavations have brought to light unique and rare antiquities for
the first time in the history of Telangana archaeology.
The Buddhist site at Phanigiri is the only extensive monastic complex in
Telangana, on par with the Buddhist site at Nagarjunakonda in Guntur
District, Andhra Pradesh.
