The Qutb Shahi Tombs are located in Shaikpet village and
mandal, Hyderabad district. The Qutb Shahi Tombs are the tombs of Qutub Shahi
kings, their queens, family members, and other very important persons like
Hakeems (royal physicians).
The most spectacular tomb belongs to Mohammad Qutb
Shah, the fifth ruler (1612-1626) of the dynasty. The height of the basements,
the architectural pattern of the domes, the decoration of the external walls, the
tile work, the facade work, and the stucco work vary from one tomb to the other.
Apart from this, there are gardens and water channels meant for supplying water
to the fountains.
The rulers of the Qutb Shahi dynasty seem to have had
an acute perception of the ephemeral nature of their palaces and monuments and
therefore put their finest efforts into the building of their mausoleums that
they knew would outlast them by centuries.
The rich architecture adopted in building the Royal
Mausoleums, mosques, and other structures of the Qutb Shahi tombs at Golconda
reminds us of their lofty ideals and the harmony that existed among the people
of their times.
The Royal Tombs of Golconda, the final resting place
of the Qutb Shahi Dynasty, with single domes, mosques, fountains, and basins of
water in the Indo-Islamic style, are truly marvelous and perhaps one of the
largest tomb complexes in the world.

Badi Baoli
‘Badi Baoli’ (large stepwell) is a functional
stepwell that collects rainwater from a large catchment area and is linked to
a network of aqueducts running through the site to use for irrigation. Under
the immense pressure exerted by collected rainwater, the 19th-century masonry
collapsed in 2013. Following extensive debris removal and subsequent
de-silting, structural repairs to the 17 m high retaining wall were carried
out, followed by construction of an alternate water channel and arched
corridor.
